One tune doesn't sound like a lot but when you've been hanging out with a band for a number of years, having some words that you wrote come to life in a song can be thrilling.
This was the first time my lyrics were used by Brett, who was in Always Almost which included Ray and Paul from Echolyn.
The year was 1996 and the album was titled, "God Pounds his Nails".
The album cover exhibited words from one of my longer poems. I think "Anatomy of Man".
After laying out the words, I highlighted the appropriate letters to spell out the title,
"God Pounds His Nails".
Ray and Brett drove the vocals. The voices mixed into the end of the song are an "Ode to Long Legs Lost", the voices of my grandparents from a multi-hour interview I did sometime in 93-94.
I wanna sit down on your love seat circus
I wanna read the book by the dead night locust
beneath the home town hero with a necktie necklace
I found her leaving with a spaceman’s focus
★
If you ain’t got no problems
you ain’t got no friends
if you ain’t got no means
you ain’t got no ends
★
I wanna lose the bird before the toe tag trying
my cow can’t cope with the crap shoot crying
I wanna shave the fat from the glove box banquet
and use a cork screw cordial on the divers dying
★
pressed down by the lipton lady
pressed down by jerusalem
pressed down, held down
hoisted by the parade
★
I wanna new name in the back room registry
a chocolate candy without the oxford bigotry
★
I wanna new kitty with some strip tease chemistry
I wanna a dirty sweet from the lollipop industry
